After waterlogging, portion of service road caves in on Expressway

The road has cracks at the edges of the service road and motorists questioned the officials concerned on the quality of works done

BENGALURU: After inundation of the Bengaluru-Mysuru National Highway-275 near Ramanagara in the light rains that lashed the region a couple of days making motorists to travel in waterlogged road, now motorists come across a portion of the service road caved in on Ramanagara bypass near a culvert leading to cracks for a fair distance.

The road has cracks at the edges of the service road and motorists questioned the officials concerned on the quality of works done on the service road. When contacted, Project Director of the Bengaluru-Mysuru National Highway Sridhara was unavailable for his reaction on the service road condition.

Sources said that the road caved in the recent rains that the region received and NHAI has not initiated steps to repair it before an untoward incident happened.

Chief Minister Basavaraj Bommai had stated that the Bengaluru-Mysuru National Highway has been constructed at a cost of Rs 8, 479 crore and NHAI officials would undertake repair works if any.

It may be recalled here that the upgraded Bengaluru-Mysuru National Highway-275 was inaugurated by Prime Minister Narendra Modi on March 12 and a couple of days after its inauguration a metal joint on the overpass of the Highway near Bidadi was damaged and the problem was attended by the National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) officials.

Over the quality of works, general secretary of All India Congress Committee Randeep Singh Surjewala alleged that substandard materials have been used in the construction of the Highway, works unscientific and also accused of improper alignment of the Highway.
