Telangana deputy Speaker Padma Devender Reddy breaks down in Assembly

The incident triggered a row in the House for some time, leading to a verbal duel between ruling and Congress legislators.

Hyderabad: Deputy Speaker Padma Devender Reddy broke down in the Assembly on Tuesday over a comment by Congress MLA D.K. Aruna. Ms Aruna’s comment prompted Legislative affairs minister T. Harish Rao to warn her that he would get her suspended from the House, but he dropped the move after she clarified that it was not directed towards the Deputy Speaker.

During the course of a debate, Ms Aruna said, “Persons without ‘sanskaram’ (culture) were running the House”. Ms Reddy was in the chair at that time.
She was visibly hurt, seen wiping away a tear. This prompted Mr Harish Rao and other TRS MLAs to demand an unconditional apology from Ms Aruna for insulting the chair.

The incident triggered a row in the House for some time, leading to a verbal duel between ruling and Congress legislators. Leader of Opposition K. Jana Reddy tried to pacify agitated house and said no member should make such comments.
