Hyderabad: Two children sustained severe burn injuries after their mother allegedly poured hot water on them for oversleeping. The incident took place at Alkapally village in Veldurthi mandal of Medak district.
Rithika, 9, and Srinitya, 6, suffered burn injuries and were shifted to Medak Government Hospital for treatment, the police said on Monday.
According to police, A. Santoshi noticed her daughters were sleeping late in the morning and were getting late for school. After repeated warnings yielding no result, Santoshi got vexed up and in a fit of rage, she dumped hot water on them.
The children woke up screaming and they were unable to bear pain due to the burns. On hearing the screams, neighbours rushed to the spot only to find the children were writhing in pain.
Upon receiving information, police visited the place and shifted the children to hospital for burns treatment. Police said that they registered a case against Santoshi. During questioning, she said that she was upset with her daughters for not waking up on time for school. Police took custody of the mother for further investigation.
