KCR announces he will contest from Kamareddy Assembly seat

KAMAREDDY: Celebrations erupted in Kamareddy district as Chief Minister K. Chandrashekar Rao announced that he will contest from here simultaneously with his existing Gajwel Assembly constituency.

Leaving out sitting MLA and Government whip Gampa Govardhan, KCR will contest in the upcoming Assembly elections from Kamareddy. KCR's parents are from Konapur village in Bibipet mandal in Kamareddy district, where he spent his childhood.

On Monday, ruling BRS leaders and activists celebrated Chief Minister K. Chandrashekar Rao's declaration to run for the Kamareddy Assembly constituency. They popped crackers and handed out sweets to the people. A rally was held in a town near the Nizamsagar crossroads. Gampa Govardhan, MLA of Kamareddy, Mujeebuddin, BRS district president, and other top leaders, however, remained in Hyderabad.

During the Telangana separatist agitation, KCR visited Kamareddy frequently to rally the Telangana protagonists. He is well-liked by individuals from all walks of life in the district. KCR's immediate relatives live in Kamareddy, and he formerly lived with their relatives in Tadwai, Kamareddy, and Domakonda mandals.

During the opening of the Domakonda mandal gramme panchayat in 2018, minister K.T. Rama Rao recalled their ancestors from the Kamareddy district. “If we had stayed here, KCR would have been the MLA in Kamareddy instead of Gampa Govardhan,” he speculated. BRS scores believed that golden days were ahead for them in Kamareddy since the KCR contest from here.
