Road discipline now set to be a subject in Telangana schools

Due to advancement of technology and increase in number of vehicles, the responsibility of road users has increased.

Hyderabad: Traffic rules and road discipline will now be part of the school curriculum from Class VI from the current academic year. The State Council of Educational Research and Training (SCERT) is preparing lessons with the help of the Traffic department, transport experts and officials.

An expert committee has be-en constituted to prepare the content pertaining to road safety, provisions of the Motor Vehicle Act, responsibilities of pedestrians, motorists and citizens, and ill effects of violating rules on the road.

“There are some lessons on traffic and road safety in the current school syllabus but they are insufficient. At a recent high-level meeting, it was decided that in the current academic year a booklet containing traffic rules, provisions of MV Act and road safety would be given to students of classes VI, VII and VIII," said Telangana School Education additional director Mr Gopal Reddy.

Due to advancement of technology and increase in number of vehicles, the responsibility of road users has increased. “Right from drunken driving to jumping signals, over-speeding, talking on cell phones while driving to importance of wearing helmets, all aspects would be covered in the booklet.
