Bengaluru: Seer plans STF against love jihad'

Mangaluru: Taking moral policing to heart, Rajashekharananda Swamiji of Vajradehi Mutt, Gurupur is on a mission to set up a Special Task Force yo stop Hindu girls from falling prey to "Love Jihad."

While saffron outfits have claimed that Muslim youth are trying to woo Hindu girls here as part of "Love Jihad," no such case has ever been proved in the region. But the seer believes the time has come to set up a special team to create awareness among the girls about the dangers of such inter- religious marriages.

"Since Love Jihad is a major social problem, we have decided to establish this task force, which will try to take preventive action. It is very difficult to intervene once the girl is influenced by the men in question," he told the Deccan Chronicle, revealing that the task force could get active by early January.

Revealing that it would be an all-women team, he said it would be guided by a panel of lawyers, psychiatrists and social workers. "We expect people to inform us about the girls, who are in contact with Muslim boys. The team will then confirm if this is true or not and once it believes the girl is at risk, it will approach the family and also counsel the girl. The students on the team will try to create awareness in the student community," he explained.

The task force is expected to speak at length about Hindu culture and social values too to the girls concerned. The seer, however, stressed that the team would only " educate" the Hindu girls and not resort to any kind of violence to make its point.

The task force is only the latest such initiative of Rajashekharananda Swamiji, who has been actively involved with saffron outfits in the region for a while. A few months ago he led the "ghar wapsi" of a Christian family and has also agreed to contest the coming Assembly elections on a BJP ticket.
