SCB members and traffic cops discuss road issues with residents

Civilian nominated member insists on opening all roads

Hyderabad: Monitoring traffic movements and issues confronting residents because of closure of certain roads in SCB jurisdiction were discussed at a meeting of SCB members, residents and A.V Ranganath, joint commissioner (traffic) and Prakash Reddy, DCP (traffic).

This comes in the wake of the board’s CEO B. Ajith Reddy’s October 18 circular agenda. It mentioned "The Head Quarters Telangana and Andhra sub area has requested this office to follow the process laid down in the guidelines issued vide Ministry of Defence Letter No. 14(9)/2018-D(Q&C) dated September 4, 2018 for closure of following roads in Secunderabad Cantonment Board.

Ammuguda Road (A1): 500 metres

Byam Road (A1):500 metres

Albain Road (Al): 700 metres

Empress Road (Al): 900 metres

Protenee Road (C): 500 metres

Richardson Road (C):300 metres

The MA has closed the above roads based on security concerns and the orders of High Court in PIL No.62 and 82 of 2014, W.Nos.5772, 5782 and 11321 of 2014. It is to mention that only 2 roads of the above, i.e. a) Ammuguda road and b) Byam Road are covered by the High Court."

This was approved by the president of the cantonment board, Brig. K. Somashankar but rejected by J. Ramakrishna, civilian nominated member of SCB.

In a letter to Soma Shankar, Ranma Krishna wrote about how he wants the roads to be opened as major difficulties are faced by the SCB residents. He wrote, “It is to my understanding that the LMA had closed the said roads in the subject about eight years back or so and the said roads remain closed. It is to submit that the circular agenda cannot be moved in a retrospective way."

He added that in case LMA intends to take-up the road closure in its true spirit, the only option was to re-open all the closed public roads unconditionally and then any such proposal of following the due procedure of law may be initiated and the same would be appreciated in the eyes of law.
