Bapatla SP Refutes Charges in Boy Burning Case

VIJAYAWADA: Bapatla district superintendent of police Vakul Jindal refuted allegations, including by political leaders, against police in the recent burning of a Class X student Uppala Amaranath at Rajavolu village of Cherukupalli mandal in Bapatla district.

The SP described as “completely untrue” allegations that police officials did not respond to the incident even after a TV channel broke the news at 7 am. He pointed out that in fact, the sub-inspector of Cherukupalli Police Station responded immediately after knowing about the victim being taken to a hospital in Cherukupalli before 6 am. It was the sub-inspector who promptly called an ambulance and accompanied the boy to Guntur Government General Hospital (GGH). By the time the ambulance and Cherukupalli sub-inspector reached Guntur GGH, Repalle Rural circle inspector was present at the hospital and admitted the victim to the GGH.

Vakul Jindal maintained that reports of accused committing the crime under the influence of ganja are false. He underlined that the incident occurred following a personal dispute between the accused and the family of the deceased.

The SP refuted allegations that the accused reached the police station to file a counter case. He pointed out that immediately after receiving the report from the mother of the deceased, the accused had been taken into police custody and arrested within 24 hours. As per the suggestion of the plaintiff, Vemuru circle inspector had been appointed as a special investigation officer and the investigation carried out. The crime scene had been thoroughly examined by the Clues team. All physical evidence had been collected in a scientific manner.

Vakul Jindal said it is not reasonable for political leaders to make baseless allegations against the police department for their own gain. He underlined that police department is conducting the investigation in a transparent and impartial manner. Each and every piece of evidence is being presented in front of the court in such a way that the accused will get appropriate punishment.

The SP asked everyone not to entertain any misconceptions about the investigation of the case.
