Namakkal: In a shocking development, a man absconded a minor girl after impregnating her near Namakkal. She is in a critical condition following an illegal abortion done by her family members.
The 17-year-old girl from a village near Namakkal is a school dropout, living with her father and brother, while her mother died a few years ago. She reportedly had an affair with her neighbour Shankar and became pregnant, sources said.
After knowing this, the youth absconded. Recently, her father and brother came to know about her eight month pregnancy. Last Thursday, they gave her abortion tablets bought from a medical shop. She gave birth to a stillborn baby at home.
More trauma followed as the hapless girl's father and brother concealed the body at home for two days. When the girl's health worsened, neighbours took her to the Namakkal government hospital on Saturday. She was then referred to the Salem government hospital.
