Boost to air link: More Mysureans flying now!

Trujet began its operations on September 20 this year.

Mysuru: Despite its status as the next most important city after Bengaluru in Karnataka, Mysuru’s air connectivity saw a reasonable take off only a month ago with several new flights being introduced from the city to various destinations. Fortunately, they are in demand not only among industrialists and tourists, but also local Mysureans.

“The 72- seater flights of Trujet Airways operating between Chennai and Mysuru are nearly full with at least 50 seats occupied every day and sometimes even 67,” says Mysuru airport director, Manoj Kumar Singh, revealing that Air Odissa is likely to once again operate 20-seater flights between Mysuru and Chennai from November and a flight to Goa is also in the pipeline. Now that the airport is being used more, it is providing refuelling facility for flights courtesy BPCL, BSNL wifi services and has restaurants serving light snacks and hot beverages, he reveals.

Except for special flights, Mysuru airport was last used for commercial operations by Air India between September 3 and November 17 , 2015. Trujet began its operations on September 20 this year. Going by Mr Singh, the Akash Ambari six -seater flights operated between Bengaluru and Mysuru during the recent ten day Dasara festival too saw full occupancy. Despite the increasing flights, passengers are not provided adequate transport to and from the airport with the KSRTC still to launch its shuttle services from it to Mysuru city centre.
