Old notes worth Rs 8 crore seized in Kayamkulam

Police arrests five, take 2 vehicles into custody.

ALAPPUZHA: Demonetised notes worth Rs 8 crore were seized from two cars at Mukkada junction near Kayamkulam early on Saturday. The police arrested five people and took into custody the two vehicles. An escort car sped away when the police stopped the other vehicles for checking. The invalid notes of 500 and 1,000 denominations were kept in grape cabins. The accused had collected the money from various parts of Coimbatore and Palakkad to be given to an agent at Kayamkulam.

The arrested were identified as Muhammed Nou-shad, 38, Kanakamanna Kuzhiyil, Kozhikode, Muhammed Haris, 53, Dar-Ul- Manar, Palakkad, Prakash, 52, Vadkkumpurayil House, Erumayoor, Palakkad, Asharaf, 30, Mukkil house, Moozhiyil Moochi, Palakkad, and Abdul Rafeek, 37, Arianchira Erumayoor, Palakkad. Kayamkulam circle inspector K. Sadan said investigation was on to find out the buyer, who had not come to the place. The arrested were produced before the Kayamkulam judicial first class magistrate court and remanded in judicial custody.
