Case against T P Senkumar for fake medical record

The vigilance probe had found prima facie substance in the allegation against T.P. Senkumar.

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: The police has registered a case against former state police chief T.P. Senkumar on Saturday over charges that he had produced fake medical records to draw full salary during the eight months he was on leave. The probe will be headed by the cantonment assistant police commissioner. Chief secretary Nalini Netto had recommended action against Senkumar on the basis of a preliminary enquiry conducted by Vigilance Special Investigation Unit DySP E.S. Bijimon.

The vigilance probe had found prima facie substance in the allegation against T.P. Senkumar. The complaint against Senkumar was filed by former Corporation councillor A.J. Sukarno. Senkumar was on leave from June 1, 2016, after he was removed from the post of police chief and was replaced by Loknath Behera following the change of government. The leave extended till to January 31, 2017. His application said the leave was for personal requirements. The government had approved nine applications which he submitted during this period for claiming half-pay. Later, on February 6, 2017, he submitted a plea seeking the conversion of his half-pay leave to commuted leave.

Along with his letter, Senkumar also produced eight medical fitness certificates from Dr V.K. Ajit Kumar of the Government Ayurveda College, which were alleged to be fake in Sukarno’s complaint. The preliminary inquiry conducted on the basis of Sukarno’s complaint had made the following findings: One, it can be suspected that Senkumar had conspired with Dr Ajith Kumar to create fake records; two, Senkumar deceived the state government by trying to pass off false documents as original; three, the dates on the OP tickets and the dates on which the doctor is said to have examined Senkumar were different; four, these dates have not been entered in the Ayurveda College register; five, one medical certificate was issued on a Sunday; six, in three medical certificates the year 2017 has been corrected as 2016; seven, in the earlier applications, Senkumar has made no mention of Ayurveda treatment. Senkumar, denying the allegations, had earlier said in a statement that he was under treatment of Dr V.K. Ajith Kumar of Govt. Ayurveda College for pain on right leg and had submitted only genuine medical records.
