Poonkunnam railway station to get upgrade

Thrissur: The Poonkunnam Railway station here will be upgraded as a satellite station of Thrissur Railway station, Railway authorities said. In a meeting with Thrissur MP C. N. Jayadevan here on Friday, the railway officials said that Poonkunnam would be developed to contain the rush in Thrissur station. Area Manager Rajesh Chandran said that a ticket reservation facility would be set up soon at Poonkunnam.

About the escalator facility on the second platform at Thrissur station, the MP said that it would start functioning before Onam and the new footover bridge in the station with lift services would be commissioned in three months’ time. He further said that the ongoing works at Diwanjimoola flyover would be completed in six months.
