No minting money: Arts, science colleges only in Kerala sector now

Thiruvananthapuram: The vice-chancellors of the state universities have decided not to provide affiliation to self- financing colleges in future. The decision was taken at a meeting of vice-chancellors convened by education minister C. Raveendranath here on Tuesday. It also decided not to sanction new unaided courses in colleges affiliated to the universities.

Spot admissions to vacant seats after the admission process was completed will be conducted at university level to end the corruption in the process. The meeting sought more autonomy for the universities. Another decision was to bring out an international journal jointly by all universities in the state. The vice-chancellors demanded reduction in the number of external examinations and increase in the number of internal examinations.

The meeting decided to increase the research output and the industry academia interface. The VCs demanded a comprehensive legislation for universities of the state modelled on the model Act of the University Grants Commission. The minister suggested that the universities should take more interest in giving adequate publicity to good practices implemented in the universities. The VCs of nine of the 11 affiliated universities of the state attended the meeting. The pro-VCs of CUSAT and Calicut Universities attended in place of the vice-chancellors.
