THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: Ola, a mobile app for hiring taxis, has now added autorickshaws to its network in Thiruvananthapuram city. According to a statement, about 100 autorickshaws are in Ola’s network in the launch stage and it would be scaled up to 500 in the coming six months. It was recently launched in Kochi too.
Ola autorickshaws are available at Rs 5 per kilometre, with a base fare of Rs 20 and a ride time charge of Re. one per minute. Night charges would be 1.25 times the normal fare, said the statement. It may be recalled that the mobile app-based taxi service had faced stiff resistance from traditional taxi drivers during its launch in the state as the rates of the mobile app-based service are quite reasonable.
