CM Pinarayi Vijayan to inaugurate Navakeralam' on Saturday

The seminars are a part of the state-level launch of Navakeralam' Peoples' Planning.

Thrissur: With the fund spending of Self Local Self Governance Institutions (LSGIs) remaining below 30 per cent in the present fiscal, the 12 public seminars to be conducted in Thekkinkkad Maidan here on Saturday will focus more on convergence of similar projects conducted by various departments. It would also demand more powers for District Planning Councils (DPCs) to give technical sanctions (TS) for the projects. The seminars are a part of the state-level launch of ‘Navakeralam’ Peoples’ Planning.

The programme conceived as the second Peoples’ Planning movement after the first phase was launched in the late 90’s is expected to marshal a whopping Rs 2 lakh crores from state and central funds for the programme which is also called 13th Navakerala Janakeeyasuthranam. The state-level inauguration of the programme will be by Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan on Saturday at 12 p.m. at the Maidan. At all the 12 seminars MLAs or ministers in the state cabinet would be the chairpersons.

The 12 seminars will be simultaneously conducted at various temporally set up venues at the Maidan from 9.30 a.m. to 11.30 a.m. before the inauguration. In the meantime, at the Nandanam Auditorium on Marar Road Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan will give a message at the youth meeting and in the following debate with young people, Finance Minister Thomas Issac, Education Minister C Raveendranath, Chief Secretary S M Vijayanand will be the panel members. Opposition leader Ramesh Chennithal will also be taking part in the event.

No Secretary for DP in Thrissur

Announcing the event in Thrissur District, Panchyat President Sheela Vijayakumar told media persons that top bureaucrats were reluctant to meet the demands of the civic bodies on time. She added that in the District Panchayat Thrissur the key post of the secretary was lying vacant for nearly an year.
