Kurnool ZP general body meeting: Finance minister assures drought mandal declaration

Buggana emphasised the government's commitment to providing timely relief to the affected farmers

Kurnool: State finance minister and district in-charge minister Buggana Rajendranath addressed the Zilla Parishad general body meeting on Saturday, assuring members that the remaining drought mandals in Kurnool and Nandyal districts would be declared in the second list.

He also highlighted various initiatives undertaken by the government to address rural development issues related to water supply, sanitation, agriculture, and housing construction.

Presiding over the meeting, Zilla Parishad chairman Yerrabotula Papireddy welcomed the minister and other dignitaries. District collector Dr G. Srijana presented a detailed report on the drought situation in the district, informing the members that 24 mandals have been declared as drought mandals so far.

Addressing the concerns raised by members regarding the delay in declaring the remaining drought mandals, minister Rajendranath assured them that proposals have already been submitted to the state government for their inclusion in the second list. He emphasised the government's commitment to providing timely relief to the affected farmers.

On the issue of water scarcity, the minister stated that 200 cusecs of water are being drawn daily from the Gajuladinne reservoir to meet the drinking water needs of Kodumuru constituency. He also expressed the government's plan to store 2 TMC of water in the project to ensure adequate water supply during dry periods.

Regarding the progress of Jal Jeevan Mission, a flagship program aimed at providing safe drinking water to every household, the minister assured prompt sanctioning of bills for undertaken works. He encouraged local public representatives to actively participate in the program and involve self-help groups in carrying out the construction activities.

In response to a request for a double road on the Kurnool-Ulchala Road, Minister Rajendranath directed R&B officials to prepare proposals for the project. He emphasized the need for improved road connectivity to facilitate transportation and boost economic growth in the region.

The ZP general body meeting concluded with a comprehensive discussion on various development initiatives being implemented in the district. Members expressed their appreciation for the government's efforts and sought continued support for addressing the pressing needs of rural communities.
