Fast an attempt to protect black money: A N Radhakrishnan

UDF taking similar stand: Radhakrishnan

Thrissur: The day-long fast by LDF leaders including Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan and veteran party leader V.S. Achuthanadan on Friday in front of the regional office of RBI at Thiruvanathapuram was an attempt to protect crores of black money stacked in Co-operative banks and Service Sahakarana Sangams attached to them, BJP general secretary A.N. Radhakrishnan said. Speaking to media persons, he said that the UDF was also taking a similar stand to support black money depositors in Co-operative banks.

“At one time, service cooperative banks and groups stood by the common man and farmers. Now, they have been hijacked by political parties and these banks and groups have a deposit of Rs one lakh crore. In 1990, as per the recommendations of Vaidyanathanathan Commission, 60 percent of the credit issued by co-operative financial institutions were given to agriculture and rural areas. In 2015, this share came down to 15 percent. Still, service co-operative groups are not carrying out audits while in district co-operative banks it is being done by chartered accountants the banks themselves select,” he said.

Through the black money declaration scheme that ended a few weeks ago, the government has got Rs 29, 362 crores that will be spent for the project ‘Housing for All by 2022 Mission’. However, Mr Radhakrishan did not give a specific reply to the query on what people, who will suffer till December 30 because of the demonetization, get in the New Year.
