Teen Deviyan' force Shobhaa De to eat her words, writer lauds girl power at Rio

Megastar Amitabh Bachchan also took a potshot at the columnist while congratulating Indian Olympian P. V. Sindhu on Twitter.

Mumbai: Columnist and author Shobhaa De, who last week tweeted tasteless remarks against the Indian Olympians at Rio, took a U-turn on Thursday and congratulated Indian shuttler PV Sindhu who defeated Nozomi Okuhara of Japan in Women's Singles Badminton and entered the finals.

In her tweets on Friday morning, De praised not only Sindhu but the two other women Olympians – wrestler Sakshi Malik and gymnast Dipa Karmakar – as well. She referred to the trio as "teen deviyan (three goddesses)" in a tweet.

On Thursday night, De hailed Sindhu on Twitter, which immediately caught attention of Twitterati, who trolled her for the "damage control" tweets.

“PV SINDHU Silver Princess? Silver minted by Sindhu. Chandi ke baad Sona!!! Go for gold, girl!!!” she said in a series of tweets.

"Stupendous Sindhu and Sakshi. Sisters in arms. Join the ranks of 'Women who make History into Her-story'," she said in a series of tweets on Friday.

However, her tweets praising Sindhu did not go down well with social media users.

While congratulating Sindhu, Megastar Amitabh Bachchan also took a potshot at De. “T 2352 - #PVSindhu .. aap "khaali haath" nahein, medal leke wapas aa rahein hain .. aur hum aapke saath 'selfie' nikalne chahate hain !!” he tweeted.

Actor Amitabh Bachchan trolls Shobhaa De as he congratulates P. V. Sindhu.

This is the second time in around two weeks when De was trolled on social media. She had on August 8 jeered the Indian team by tweeting, "Goal of Team India at the Olympics: Rio jao. Selfies lo. Khaali haat waapas aao. What a waste of money and opportunity."

She was criticised for her comment in the tweet and was trolled on social media. Cricketer Virender Sehwag and Bachchan had also joined in the trolls.

A few days later, when Malik won bronze medal in women's wrestling 58kg category, Sehwag tweeted, "#SakshiMalik ke gale me medal kitna 'Sobha De' raha hai na !!! #HappyRakshaBandhan."

He later retweeted his tweet with, "Bilkul , isliye Shobha Na De aise kaam nahi karne chahiye."
