Techie dead, pal hurt in mishap at Raidurgam

Police said the duo were intoxicated at the time of the accident.

Hyderabad: Two techies returning home after partying at a pub met with an accident after their bike hit a divider at Raidurgam early on Saturday. Aditi Ranka, 23, died on the spot and her friend Prasanna Purwar, 23, was injured seriously. Police said the duo were intoxicated at the time of the accident. Aditi, who belongs to Madhya Pradesh, was staying at Telecom Nagar in Gachibowli and Prasanna from Uttar Pradesh in Kondapur. Both were tax analysts at Deloitte. On Friday after work, Aditi and Prasanna and eight other colleagues gathered at the Prost Brew Pub in Jubilee Hills. After partying late into the night they dispersed.

Prasanna offered to drop Aditi at her flat. They started on Prasanna’s bike and were driving on the Kothaguda-Gachibowli Road. Prasanna was driving and Aditi was on the pillion. When they reached a curve near the Royal Enfield showroom, Prasanna lost control and hit the divider. “The road is curved towards the left. Due to high speed he did not see the curve and hit the divider. As a result Aditi fell in the other lane, suffered a serious head injury, and died on the spot. Prasanna who was wearing a helmet suffered fractures on his hands and legs and an injury on the head,” Raidurgam SI G. Rajashekar said.

Prasanna is now in hospital, and is out of danger. “As Prasanna is undergoing treatment and had surgery on the head we could not examine him and confirm whether he was drunk. We are trying to find out if they were drunk,” police said. The road at the accident spot is good and there was adequate lighting on both lanes. Based on a complaint from Aditi’s relative Ashok Surana, a case of accidental death was registered, and her body was handed over to her family after autopsy.
