Railways' One Station One Product' Scheme Gains Steam

Hyderabad: In order to promote local products and create opportunities for artisans, Indian Railways had initiated the ‘one station one product’ scheme. The scheme, announced during the Union Budget , has become increasingly popular.

Starting with six stations across South Central Railway, the ‘one station one product’ scheme has expanded to 109 stations, with 120 stalls in place.

In Telangana state, 33 stations including those at Secunderabad, Hyderabad, Kacheguda, Warangal, Nizamabad and Gadwal, have 41 stalls. Some of the products sold at these stalls are handlooms by local weavers from places such as Narayanpet, Gadwal and Pochampalli, TSCO handlooms, millet-based foods, bamboo crafts from Bhadrachalam, toys from Nirmal and local delicacies.

The stalls are allotted based on tenders and the applicants get their allotment on rotation basis by drawing a lottery.

Further, there are provisions in the scheme’s policy to provide opportunities to all applicants. TO achieve this objective, various public outreach measures, including newspaper advertisements, social media announcements and press announcements have been adopted by the railway authorities.
