Presenting this masterplan before a seminar convened by the Kalamassery Development Forum supported by the CPM and its district secretary and former MP P. Rajeev, Dr Sreekala outlined the priority areas and the required allocation for each sector with the tag who should take the initiative.

“More buses to Kalamassery and a bus stand are needed. More posts have to be created and filled at the college. The nursing department has to be strengthened. Infrastructure has to be improved, super specialties have to come up,” she said calling for dedication and sincerity from the staff.

The principal also said that overindulgence in politics by the staff and students should be curbed by politicians.

Inaugurating the seminar, Planning Board member Dr B. Ekbal said that the government aimed at making each medical college a deemed university allied with four other institutions on the campus.

“These are a dental college, nursing college, pharmacy college and a paramedical institute. To lessen the health expenses, the quality and cleanliness in public health care system should improve,” he said.

Delivering the keynote address, Mr P. Rajeev said that the Mobility Hub and the General Hospital are examples of transformation owing to public intervention in a constructive way.

Former principal Dr Praveen Lal said that if the medical college improved, the quality of service at the hospital wing will improve. Former medical director of the hospital Dr Junaid Rehman, who is also the chairman of the development forum, made a presentation on the cancer centre.
