Several cops infected and in quarantine

Police erect tents outside stations to receive complaints, ensuring social distance

Hyderabad: The city police have erected makeshift tents to attend to people who come to the station with complaints after several policemen fell sick due to Covid19 infection in recent days.

Cyberabad Police Commissioner Stephen said all police stations with compact offices are asked to set up tents outside to have proper ventilation while meeting people who turn up with petitions. “Some 305 cops are down with C-infection. Precautions are taken in congested places to make sure social distancing is maintained. Allowing people inside the stations will not be advisable in the present context.”

“The complainants too should feel safe. I personally call police constables asking them to ensure safety and precautions,” he said.

Meanwhile, Hyderabad police commissioner Anand said almost all the 62 police stations are facing the problem of staff getting infected. “The petitioners are asked to wait outside the police stations and tents have been erected to maintain social distance,” he said.

Police commissioner of Rachakonda, Mahesh, said petitioners in groups are not allowed inside the police stations. Chairs are given for them to wait outside.

As for traffic police, 55 cops were infected with Covid19 so far. “In the West Zone alone, 14 officials from the three out of five traffic police stations were infected in the last few days. Panjagutta and SR Nagar traffic cops are safe for now,” sources said.

Some 99 per cent of the infected cops were home quarantined. Serious cases have been hospitalised.
