Chennai: Tamil Nadu Urban Finance and Infrastructure Development Finance Corporation has floated tenders inviting consultants for Chennai corporation to provide ideas for the smart city project.

The corrigendum published last week has demanded aerial survey of properties in Chennai through geo satellite facility. “Preparation of base map with property and utility mapping, door to door survey using geo-spatial techniques for the entire area of Chennai smart city are the prime jobs to be completed as part of the smart city's first phase,” said a corporation official.

The civic body will be taking up a series of studies and surveys in the current year. Though there has been delay in the smart city project ideas both at the state and the central level due to various factors the project will ensure a smooth and steady transition of the congested Chennai.

Traffic and transportation are the key areas that are targeted under the first phase of the project and based on the report submitted by consultants the civic body would fine-tune the ideas. In a phased manner, the concept will also be extended to other areas like waste management, drinking water supply, e- governance and revenue generation, the official added.

Under the smart city mission in Chennai a special purpose vehicle, Chennai Smart City Limited had been formed and the corporation has now short listed seven logos for the company for the public to select. Citizens have also been asked to suggest self-designed logos, another corporation official said.
