Youth protests for men's reservation in RTC buses

Nizamabad: Vexed by the non-availability of seats in TSRTC buses due to the recently launched free travel for women under the Maha Lakshmi scheme by the Congress government, a youngster staged a protest at the Armoor bus stand demanding reservation for male passengers in the buses. The protester, identified as Vasu, a resident of Armoor, obstructed the Warangal-bound RTC bus at the bus stand by staging a protest in front of it for a while.

He alleged that the Congress government provided free ride facilities for women in the RTC buses under Maha Lakshmi scheme, but it is adversely affecting male passengers. All buses were being fully occupied by women only. The male passengers, who were being charged, were forced to stand while travelling in RTC buses, he complained.

Of the total 55 seats in the bus, 40 seats should be allocated for women passengers and the remaining 15 should be reserved for men, he argued. However, after a while, the bus crew and police convinced Vasu to withdraw his protest by promising to bring the issue to the notice of higher-ups.
