NSUI Withdraws Petition Filed Against KCR

Hyderabad: The Telangana state wing of the National Students Union of India (NSUI) withdrew its petition filed before the Telangana High Court, in which it ought directions to the Election Commission of India (ECI) and the state’s Chief Electoral Ifficer (CEO) to initiate action against Chief Minister K. Chandrashekar Rao for delivering an allegedly defamatory speech against Congress leaders and workers during a public meeting in BRS Praja Ashirvada Sabha, Banswada constituency on October 30.

The High Court opined that the issues raised in the petition were premature and objections could be lodged before the ECI.

Alluri Giridhar Rao, senior counsel, appearing for the petitioner, sought leave of the court to withdraw the writ petition. Meanwhile, in another case, a petitioner withdrew his petition against minister V. Srinivas Goud. One Chaluvagali Raghavendra Raju, complainant before the returning officer, Mahbubnagar, had filed the petition seeking a direction to reject Goud’s nomination. The prayer of Raju was that he did not get any reply to the objections raised by him on the affidavit filed by Goud

During the hearing, Avinash Desai, standing counsel for ECI, said the returning officer had replied to Raju’s objections by an order dated November 13, and produced a copy of the order before the court. Upon this, counsel for the petitioner intended to withdraw the writ petition.
