The police should seize vehicles only in unavoidable instances like pending criminal cases.

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: State police chief Loknath Behera has directed stop the practice of piling up of vehicles on the police station premises. He asked officers to take immediate steps to release the maximum number of vehicles and offered rewards for the achievers. The police should seize vehicles only in unavoidable instances like pending criminal cases. He also sought a detailed report from district police chiefs within two weeks on seized vehicles kept away from stations.

Mr Behera directed that vehicles seized in connection with petty cases should be released after issuing a receipt and directing the owner to produce it when required. Similarly, vehicles seized in other not so serious cases should be released at the earliest by following norms.
