M Karunanidhi appeals for support in bypolls

Despite reports that Chief Minister J. Jayalalithaa is getting well, only a few people had met and enquired about her health.

Chennai: DMK chief M. Karunanidhi on Wednesday appealed to voters of bypolls in three constituencies, Aravakurichi, Thanjavur and Thirupparankundram to vote for the DMK to teach a lesson to the ruling party so that it would function better. The AIADMK government had not come out with any measures to mitigate the sufferings of the people who are undergoing misery after the demonetisations of currencies by the centre, he said.

The farmers in the delta districts are forced to commit suicides due to the prevailing conditions and the ministers had not visited their houses to pay compensation and console the families of the victims, he charged. Despite reports that Chief Minister J. Jayalalithaa is getting well, only a few people had met and enquired about her health.

He also charged that AIADMK ministers are spending lavishly in the three constituencies, while DMK cadres working in the seats have no money even for their food expenses.

Karunanidhi said though he was unable to visit the constituencies and seek votes, partymen under the leadership of treasurer M.K. Stalin are campaigning intensively. He said Stalin is regularly informing him about election works, besides encouraging party working cadres.
