No salary cut for Kerala ministers' staff

Sources said the GAD was collecting details of staff members of the ministers to create a database of employees and their nature of work.

Thiruvananthapuram: The general administration department is in the process of preparing a “permanent exemption list” of employees including personal staff attached to the Chief Minister and ministers whose salaries will not be linked with the bio metric punching system installed for staff at the secretariat.

Sources said the GAD was collecting details of staff members of the ministers to create a database of employees and their nature of work. While the attendance of staff members who discharge duties from office will be linked to salary, those accompanying ministers outside office and who are entrusted with external duties would be brought in “permanent exemption list.”

The GAD is making special arrangement for the staff accompanying ministers, those entrusted with court duties and assigned meetings outside offices to punch in advance. There will be provision for such staff members to record their attendance on the eve of external duties and even after completion of their assignments.

However, their attendance will be cleared only after getting confirmation from superior officers.

Meanwhile, the installation of punching machines outside ministers’ offices is expected to be completed by next week.

Under the new system the employees are required to show the bio metric card and then place index finger on the machine. Once a staff member uses the punching machine the attendance details goes automatically to Spark salary software.

Each employee is entitled to three hour relaxation every month. After the limit gets over if an employee reaches late or leaves early for three days, he loses a day’s salary along with leave. In the first phase the staff has to sign the register along with punching.
