Chennai: Amid reports that Chief Minister J. Jayalalithaa is recovering, British expert Dr Richard Beale and three specialists from the prestigious All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS) examined her for the second consecutive day on Friday.
Dr Beale, the Intensivist specialist from London, and AIIMS’ Pulmonologist Dr G.C. Khilnani, cardiologist Dr Nitish Naik and anesthetist Dr Anjan Trikha discussed in detail the line of treatment being given to Ms Jayalalithaa with the team of doctors treating her at the Apollo Hospitals here since September 22.
The doctors had earlier concurred with the line of treatment being given to the Chief Minister and had suggested further continuance of it. Sources said the Chief Minister was “responding well” to the treatment and that treating doctors are “happy” with the progress in her health condition.
A medical bulletin issued by the Apollo Hospitals on October 6 had said Ms Jayalalithaa would require “longer stay” at the hospital. Meanwhile, former Tamil Nadu Governor K. Rosaiah visited the Apollo Hospitals and enquired about her health from doctors. Speaking to reporters outside the hospital, Mr Rosaiah said the Chief Minister was “responding very well” to the treatment and expressed hope that she would recover very soon and return home.

Karunanidhi’s wife Rajathi Ammal visited the hospital on Thursday night and is said to have met Ms Sasikala and enquired about Ms Jayalalithaa’s health.
Opposition Leader in Kerala Assembly Ramesh Chennithala visited the Apollo Hospitals and was briefed by doctors and hospital chairman Prathap C. Reddy. Later speaking to reporters, the Congress leader said the doctors told him that Ms Jayalalithaa was recovering well.
