Highways body to fund greening national highways

NHAI Chairman Raghav Chandra asked the state government to submit proposals for the funding.

Hyderabad: The National Highways Authority of India will pay the state government Rs 1,500 per sapling planted along the national highways. It asked the government to plant at least 800 saplings for every kilometre on either side of the national highways as per NHAI norms. He was responding to TS chief secretary Rajiv Sharma’s request to fund the green initiative of the state government on highways. Mr Sharma had also sought funds to complete widening of national highways in Telangana.

Earlier at a national conference on highways construction technology organised by the CII here, NHAI chairman said 97 projects covering 6,631 km worth Rs lakh crore are in the pipeline to be granted to various states during the current financial year.
