Andhra Pradesh: Bhavani deeksha ends

Temple turns sea of red as thousands have darshan.

Vijayawada: The premises of Kanakadurga temple on Wednesday resembled a sea of red, with scores of Bhavani devotees turning to end their deeksha.

As part of the ritual, Bhavani devotees who wear red clothes visit the temple with irumudi and offer special pujas to Goddess Durga before ending their deeksha.

With the number of devotees starting to swell right from the early hours, the place designated for performing puja was completely filled up.Guru Bhavanis removed the irumudis from the devotees and performed puja.

The devotees came from across the state first performed ‘Giripradakshina’ walking around Indrakeeladri and went up to the temple for darshan.

All the roads around the hill were filled with Bhavani devotees. The devotees expressed displeasure over the poor arrangements made for irumudi puja. They also expressed anger at the temple authorities for not setting up enough prasadam counters.

“It took us 2 hours have darshan but been waiting in the queue to get prasadam,” said D. Ramesh, a devotee who came from Bhimavaram.
