Guntakal GGH celebrates normal delivery of baby

ANANTAPUR: In a novel move, Guntakal Government General Hospital (GGH) doctors ensured a successful normal delivery of a one-month overdue baby. There were cheers as the pregnant woman Tejaswini, from Hathi Belagal in Kurnool district, went through labour and delivered a healthy baby at the hospital weighing 5.8 kg.

Guntakal GGH has thus succeeded in bucking the trend of hospitals, particularly private ones, where delivery of babies is predominantly through caesarean section.

Incidentally, when the labour pains started, Tejaswini had first been taken to Aluru Government Hospital in Kurnool district. As the delivery had been overdue for a month with chances of complications, doctors there suggested that Tejaswini be taken to either Bellary or Guntakal. Her family members shifted her to the Guntakal Government General Hospital on Saturday.

After examining the mother, Guntakal Government Hospital chief Dr. Sujatha realised the baby being overweight. But, she gave confidence to Tejaswini and her family members that they go in for a normal delivery. Over two hours later, the mother delivered a healthy baby. “Though there had been a few complications, we succeeded in ensuring safety of both the mother and child,” Dr. Sujatha stated.

Tejaswini and her husband Nagi Reddy are very happy with the outcome and thanked doctors and staff of Guntakal GGH.
