Major lapses in Kannur MBBS admissions

James panel finds college didn't give details needed to hold spot admissions

Thiruvananthapuram: Major lapses were detected in the admission process in Kannur Medical College run by Prestige Educational Trust headed by Dr Hashim M.A. as director. The Commissioner for Entrance Examinations had earlier decided to report to the High Court that the Kannur and Karuna medical colleges had not provided the details needed for conducting the spot admissions contrary to the laid- down procedures.

The CEE found that the website of the college www.anjarakandy.in does not have the details as directed by the oversight committee of the MCI. The Admission Supervisory Committee headed by Justice J.M. James had monitored the website of the Kannur Medical College to ascertain whether it was complying with the directions of the committee. The screenshots of the website showed that the information given by the college was regarding the 2013 admissions and not about 2016-17, sources said.

Further, there was no direct application link to the Kannur Medical College website and instead another site of the Minority Professional College Management Association was used for inviting applications, sources said. There were complaints that the applicants were unable to Kannur medical college due to lack of sufficient information and that they were unable to even draw the DD for want of specific direction in the prospectus. This was a violation of the approval order issued on September 9, sources said.

This site was also not directly notified by the medical college to enable the applicants to enter and register their online applications. When the ASC monitored the MPCMA site also, it did not provide any link for online submission of MBBS admissions 2016-17. The ASC had issued another communication dated September 17 to the college directing it to immediately provide online application link. The monitoring of the websites of the college and the MPCMA even later revealed that the college did not provide a direct online application link under the Kannur medical college website, sources said.
