New 800 MW unit 8 of NTTPS synchronised to grid

Vijayawada: The Andhra Pradesh Power Generation Corporation (APGenco) achieved another feat by successfully synchronising the new 800 MW Unit 8 (Stage V) of the Dr Narla Tatarao Thermal Power Station (NTTPS) to the grid on Sunday morning.

The 800 MW unit boiler is built with supercritical technology and an energy efficient turbine and generator. The unit was erected in 80 acres of land with optimum utilisation of land.

Special chief secretary to energy department and APGenco chairman K.Vijayanand and APGenco managing director K.V.N. Chakradhar Babu congratulated the APGenco team, BHEL and BGR contractors in achieving this milestone.

They expressed gratitude to Chief Minister Y.S. Jagan Mohan Reddy and energy minister Peddireddi Ramachandra for all the support and guidance extended to APGenco from time to time.

In March, the 800 MW Unit 3 of the Sri Damodaram Sanjeevaiah Thermal Power Station (SDSTPS) in Nellore was commissioned and its COD completed.

The MD said, “With the trial operation of this NTTPS new unit, the thermal installed capacity of APGenco reached 8,789 MW. In recent times, in AP alone, two 800 MW supercritical units were commissioned. Gencois supplying around 102 to 105 million units to the state grid on a daily basis, which is around 40 to 45 per cent of the total consumption and the highest-ever after the bifurcation of united AP.”

Chakradhar Babu further said, “Efforts are being made to adopt the best practices, improve operational efficiency and reduce emissions. APGenco will strive hard to be the best organisation at national level in power generation and maintain the highest Plant Load Factor (PLF).”

Power utilities are striving hard to meet the objective of the state government to provide 24x7 power to all categories of consumers and nine hours’ day-time power to agriculture.

Directors of APGenco G. Chandrasekhara Raju, B. Venkatesulu Reddy, Antony Raja, M.V.V. Satyanarayana and Syed Raffe were among the officials present.
