Private hospitals have sought more funds for universal health plan: Shivananda Patil

Bengaluru: Health and Family Welfare Minister Shivananda Patil informed the Legislative Council on Monday that a few private hospitals had sought more fund from the state government to provide services under the Universal Health Scheme. Replying to a question by Congress MLC Ivan D'Souza, he said the Universal Health Scheme has come into effect in 11 major hospitals in the state from June 1, 2018. As many as 471 private hospitals have registered with the government to provide health services under this scheme.

Earlier, health schemes of the state government such as Vajpayee Arogya Sree, Rajiv Arogya Bhagya, Mukyamantri Santhvana Harish Yojane, Yashashwini Yojana and other schemes have been merged with the Universal Health Scheme. Under this scheme, the government will provide 1,516 modes of treatment. If there is no service available at a government hospital for a particular ailment, the service of a nearby private hospital can be availed, Mr Patil explained.
