TSRTC arranging free travel for women in interstate areas

Nizamabad: In view of the presence of interstate border areas in Nizamabad region, the Telangana State Road Transport Corporation (TSRTC) is taking up programmes to sensitize women for free travel in state transport buses.

The Congress government, as part of its six guarantees to voters, would allow free travel for women in RTC buses from Saturday afternoon. They only need to produce their ID.

TS RTC Nizamabad region consists of Nizamabad and Kamareddy districts bordering Maharashtra and Karnataka states. TS RTC bus services are run in these three states.

The state government explained that it allowed women to travel free in Palle Velugu ordinary and express buses within the Telangana state limits.

TSRTC’s Nizamabad region has 540 buses, of which 300 are Palle Velugu and 120 express buses, all of them plying daily. Around 1.70 lakh passengers travel in these buses. The passenger number reaches 1.90 lakh per day in peak season and 1.40 lakh in slack season. Of the 1.70 lakh passengers, women form around 40 per cent.

Palle Velugu services are plying for around a 60km distance and express buses run long distance services to Hyderabad and Warangal from Nizamabad.

TSRTC Nizamabad regional manager John Reddy said women passengers seeking free travel in the buses should show any identity proof to establish that they belonged to Telangana state. Aadhar card, Election Photo Identity Card, Driving Licence or any other ID proof may be produced before the bus driver/conductor, he said.

The RM said that the software was not developed yet to issue the zero charge tickets to the women passengers. "We will allow the women passengers to travel free of cost without any zero charge ticket now,” he said.
