GVL takes up Thungalam gate issue with BHEL CMD

Visakhapatnam: BJP MP G.V.L. Narasimha Rao on Wednesday demanded immediate opening of Thungalam gate in Visakhapatnam. The issue has been since 2000.

The MP met the new chairman and managing director (CMD) of BHEL, K. Sadashiv Murthy. He requested the CMD to take steps to open the BHEL-HPVP gate on the Thungalam village side. This would provide an easy commute to people of Thungalam, Chukkavanipalem, Jaggarajupeta, Pakhir Takya and Siddharthanagar in the Gajuwaka assembly constituency of Visakhapatnam city.

In a letter submitted to the BHEL CMD, Narasimha Rao said since year 2000, people of these five villages have been denied vehicular access to the road leading to the National Highway-16 and Gajuwaka area. Even though there is a gate, it always remains closed.

The MP said the reasons cited for closure of the gate are not satisfactory. He expressed confidence that after his meeting with the BHEL CMD, the matter will be resolved at the earliest.

“Opening of the Thungalam gate is a matter of self-respect for the people of five villages, as they had donated their lands for BHEL’s Heavy Plates and Vessels plant,” Narasimha Rao underlined.
