Pondicherry CM slams Centre over stalling CMB

The CM said the stand of NDA government exposed its intention' to block flow of Cauvery water to Tamil Nadu and Puducherry.

Puducherry: Puducherry Chief Minister V. Narayanasamy on Saturday criticised the Union government for not constituting the Cauvery Management Board despite the Supreme Court direction.

The CM said the stand of NDA government exposed its ‘intention’ to block flow of Cauvery water to Tamil Nadu and Puducherry. Though the court had directed to form Cauvery Management Board the centre failed to respond to the court order said Mr Narayanasamy adding that the Karnataka government too failed to obey the court direction to release water to TN and Puducherry.

“The situation now is such that the states have to move Supreme Court every year for ensuring proper allocation of water, and this would be changed if the Water Management board is formed,” he said.

Talking on his recent Delhi visit and meeting with Union Transport Minister Nitin Gadkari and Minister of state Pon Radhakrishnan, Mr Narayanasamy said discussions have been held on signing of the MoU between Puducherry government and the Madras Port on handling of cargo in Puducherry port.

“The MoU is likely to be signed by next week. Steps are being taken to convert Puducherry port into a sub-port of Madras Port,” he said. On rising number of extortion cases in Puducherry, he said there were reports of police personnel extorting money from traders and industrialists citing festivals like Deepavali and Ayudha Pooja.
