IIIT Basar fresher dies by suicide; fifth in a year

ADILABAD: First-year student (PUC-I) Jadhav Bablu of IIIT Basar died by suicide on the campus on Tuesday afternoon. He had joined the institute a week ago and classes had started just a day ago. This is the fifth suicide of a student at the IIIT Basar campus in the last one year.

“Jadhav Bablu died by suicide, when he was alone. He took the extreme step due to his personal problems,” IIIT Basar said. It is said Bablu shortly before his death had spoken to his brother Sainath, doing his BE first year also at IIIT Basar. Bablu was a native of Narayankhed of Sangareddy district.

According to the IIIT authorities, students who got the admissions joined their courses on July 31. The authorities held orientation sessions till August 5 and classes began on August 7.

IIIT Basar Vice Chancellor Prof. V. Venkata Ramana expressed his shock and said the incident was unfortunate. He said students must contact the campus administration if they have any problem and all possible help would be provided to the students. He appealed to the students to not lose their heart.

Prof Venkata Ramana was in Hyderabad when the incident took place. He started his journey to Basar immediately thereafter.

Congress leaders of Nirmal led by Srihari Rao expressed their anger over the denial of entry to them inside the hospital to see the body of the student.
