Sobha Surendran hits out at businessman for loss

She was speaking at a public function in Palakkad on Tuesday which was organised to felicitate Nemom BJP MLA O. Rajagopal.

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: BJP general secretary Sobha Surendran, who was defeated from Palakkad Assembly constituency, lashed out against her detractors in the party and against a businessman from Palakkad. She was speaking at a public function in Palakkad on Tuesday which was organised to felicitate Nemom BJP MLA O. Rajagopal.

An emotionally charged Ms Sobha lamented that during the 2014 Lok Sabha elections, despite managing to increase her vote share in all the Assembly constituencies in Palakkad, she came only second after Shafi Parambil of the Congress in Palakkad Assembly seat.

While lashing out against the BJP district leadership, Ms Sobha said she had not entered politics after signing a stamp paper or had ever dreamt of becoming a general secretary. “I had asked the central home minister to probe the activities of the alleged businessman seeking a CBI enquiry. The peeved businessman turned against me and worked to defeat me in the Assembly elections,” said Sobha Surendran in the public speech.

Later, Mr Rajagopal who addressed the gathering, cast aspersions on BJP state secretary and Malampuzha BJP Assembly candidate C. Krishnakumar. Mr Rajagopal said that if Mr Krishnakumar had chances of victory anywhere in the state, he should not have demanded that particular seat alone.

There were reports that Mr Krishnakumar wanted to contest from Palakkad and worked against Ms Sobha’s victory at Palakkad. “It was not due to greed that I contested the elections 16 times. If a candidate could get two seats, it is ideal to contest from there so as to elevate the party and its ideals to greater heights,” said Mr Rajagopal.
