The university set up during DMK rule had lost its recognition under AIADMK rule, he said.

Chennai: Leader of Opposition M.K. Stalin on Saturday urged the state government to form a committee of academicians to probe the alleged irregularities in the Tamil Nadu Agricultural University and take steps to get back its recognition.

The university set up during DMK rule had lost its recognition under AIADMK rule, he said and added that 14 colleges and 39 agricultural research centres were functioning under the university, giving 13 bachelor degree and 39 post graduate courses, besides doctorate for research.

The university had undertaken many functions including methods to increase production, fertilizer management, saving crops from weeds and pests, designing machines for ploughing, sowing and harvest, besides research. But, such an university had lost its recognition due to appointment of temporary registrars, comptroller of examinations, principals and directors and frequently changing them.

Besides, the number of colleges under the university was increased without ensuring proper infrastructure, syllabus for Home Science was changed arbitrarily and the courses were changed to trimester system.

The AIADMK government should take responsibility for the present situation, he said and wanted the setting up of a committee of academicians to probe the irregularities and submit a report, based on which action should be taken to restore the university’s recognition.
