Muddy water supplied to Osmania General Hospital

One theatre had to be closed down as water supply to that unit was hit.

Hyderabad: Muddy water was supplied to the Osmania General Hospital on Friday due to the repair works being carried out on the main water pipelines supplying water to the Afzal Gunj area where the hospital is located.

The quality of water didn’t improve even on Saturday but the hospital authorities have made alternate arrangements and carried out surgeries. There are 22 operation theatres in OGH and every day 5 to 8 surgeries are performed.

One theatre had to be closed down as water supply to that unit was hit. Five elective surgeries in that unit were postponed as there was some problem in the internal water pipeline.

A senior health official of OGH said, "The water is very muddy and the flow is very less. The same situation is prevailing since last two days. But we have made other arrangements and works in the hospital are going on."

OGH superintendent, Dr G.V.S. Murthy said, “Only one operation theatre had a problem. All other theatres are functional. We got water tankers to supply water. On Friday we performed a liver transplant and a kidney transplant. This would not have been possible if there was a water problem. We have made other arrangements and the water department has also been informed to check the issue.”
