Kerala High Court tells Bevco to end queues in front of outlets

The Court asked Excise authorities to take action if the functioning of outlets was causing trouble for the general public.

Kochi: The Kerala High Court reiterated the importance of ending long inhumane queues in front of beverage outlets in the state. The Court stressed on the need for adequate waiting area for people coming to buy liquor within the shop premises. It also asked the state to end the nuisance for neighbouring shop owners and residential buildings. The Court asked Excise authorities to take action if the functioning of outlets was causing trouble for the general public. It made the observation while considering a plea filed by traders seeking a directive to close beverage outlets functioning near their shops.

The Court had earlier observed, “Why is the government showing step motherly attitude towards public corporations like Bevco. State is showing no interest in improving facilities for consumers at Bevco. Though the Beverages corporation had claimed that they will take effective steps to end the woes of public, there is still no action.
