Measles vaccination drive gets going

The campaign, to go on until February 28, is expected to cover over 1.8 crore children between nine months and 15 years of age, from the state.

Chennai: The Measles Rubella vaccination drive - organised by the Union Ministry of Health and Family Welfare, for which Tamil Nadu was also selected among other states - was kick-started in the city on Monday.

The campaign, to go on until February 28, is expected to cover over 1.8 crore children between nine months and 15 years of age, from the state. "The first week concentrates on schools, while in the second week, health centres are going to be the main focus," said State Immunity Officer, Thamaraiselvi.

"We are very happy that it has gone off well on the first day and we hope that it continues the same way in the remaining 22 days as well. The campaign is indeed a welcome move," said Health Secretary J. Radhakrishnan.
