Centre forms team to visit Cauvery basin

Team will meet in Bengaluru on Friday for a preparatory meeting and subsequent visit to the Cauvery basin area for assessing the ground realities.

Chennai: The Union government on Wednesday constituted a high level technical team to visit the Cauvery basin area to assess the ground realities there, a day after the Supreme Court gave a direction in this regard.

The team will meet in Bengaluru on Friday for a preparatory meeting and subsequent visit to the Cauvery basin area for assessing the ground realities and submit a report to the Supreme Court on October 17.

In a press release, the Ministry of Water Resources said G.S. Jha, Chairman, Central Water Commission (CWC), will be the Chairman of this team, while S Masood Husain, Member (WP&P), CWC and RK Gupta, Chief Engineer, Krishna and Godavari Basin Organisation, CWC, Hyderabad will be the members.

Chief Secretary or his representative from the States of Tamil Nadu and Karnataka and the Chief Engineers of the States of Tamil Nadu, Karnataka, Kerala and UT of Puducherry will also be members.
