Inter-state KSRTC buses not to stop at lonely spots

A senior KSRTC official said the new direction would mean that request stops' in night services would not be allowed now.

Kochi: In the wake the recent incident of robbery on an interstate bus, the KSRTC has issued an order directing the crew members not to stop buses at lonely places “at any circumstances”. “It has come to the notice that anti-social elements are targeting the buses stopping at deserted areas outside the state. The crew should ensure that the buses are not halted at secluded places. Even under emergency circumstances, they can stop at bus stations besides functioning petrol pumps and restaurants only,” read the circular issued by the chief traffic manager to depots.

A senior KSRTC official said the new direction would mean that ‘request stops’ in night services would not be allowed now. “The crew will be held liable upon stopping buses at other places, and punitive action will be taken upon receiving complaints to this effect,” he said. On Thursday, four bike-borne robbers looted passengers at Channapatna, 65 km off Bengaluru. The attack happened at 2.45 am when the driver stopped the bus for taking a short break. The robbers suddenly rushed into the bus through both doors and looted money and ornaments at knifepoint.
