Chennai: DMK Rajya Sabha MP T.K.S. Elangovan on Friday submitted a memorandum to the CBI urging the organisation to take up the enquiry into the seizure of Rs 570 crore in a container lorry at Tiruppur during this year’s Assembly election campaign.

In his petition, Elangovan asked if the RBI had granted any movement order for carrying the money and alleged that after the three container lorries with Andhra Pradesh registration were seized, attempts had been made to stake a legalised claim of the money.

He asked if the officer at Coimbatore SBI asked for security cover from RBI Chennai and the latter sent its security personnel. He also raised questions over the denomination of currency notes, if they were fresh or soiled or if the currencies were packed in steel boxes, weighed and recorded in cash remittance annexures.

He also asked if the if the boxes were numbered and if the cash inflow and outflow statements corroborate the claims of SBI officials. When the general banking practice is to avoid cash remittance on Fridays, how the assistant general manager of SBI permitted the alleged remittance of '570 crore on Friday, he asked.
