BRS to Petition ECI over 2 Separate MLC Bypolls

Hyderabad: The BRS on Saturday objected to the Election Commission of India (ECI) announcing two separate elections to fill the two MLC seats under the MLA quota, with polls scheduled towards January-end.

Elections to the two MLC seats have been necessitated with BRS MLCs Kadiam Srihari and Padi Kaushik Reddy resigning from the Council after they were elected MLAs in the Assembly polls.

Senior party leader and former Karimnagar MP B. Vinod Kumar said that following a discussion with BRS general secretary Soma Bharat Kumar, they have decided to send a letter with the party’s views on the matter to the ECI.

Claiming the ECI’s decision would benefit the Congress, Kumar said: “What is the intent behind this decision? Both Srihari and Kaushik Reddy were declared elected as MLCs on November 9, 2021, through a single notification and this being the case, where is the need for two separate notifications to fill the two vacancies?”
