AIADMK MPs march in protest to PMO

After they were allegedly not allowed to meet Narendra Modi, who was in a meeting .

Chennai: High drama prevailed in the high-security Raisina Hills in New Delhi on Tuesday after AIADMK MPs took out a march from Parliament House to South Block, where the Prime Minister’s Office is located, after they were allegedly not allowed to meet Narendra Modi, who was “in a meeting”.

The drama on the sensitive Cauvery issue continued even outside the PMO with AIADMK MPs and security personnel involved in heated exchanges after the entire delegation of 47 MLAs was denied permission to enter the high-security campus. Finally, 7 MPs including Deputy Speaker of Lok Sabha, M. Thambidurai, Lok Sabha floor leader P.Venugopal and Rajya Sabha floor leader A.Navaneethakrishnan were allowed to meet PMO officials and submit their memorandum.

Based on a letter written by a Joint Secretary, Ministry of Water Resources to him, the Government of Tamil Nadu nominated Thiru R. Subramanian, Chairman, Cauvery Technical Cell, as the representative of Tamil Nadu in the Cauvery Management Board, Mr Rao told Mr Shekhar.

“It is learnt that the Government of India has on Monday filed an Interlocutory Application in SC seeking modification to the order dated Sept. 30, 2016 stating that the Cauvery Management Board cannot be constituted now,” he said.

“We are unable to understand what caused this sudden reversal in GoI’s stand. In the circumstances, I request you to kindly take action to withdraw the IA and constitute the CMB on or before 4th October, 2016” the Chief Secretary said.
